(Chicago-AP) -- A new Titanic exhibit in Chicago is likely to bring in thousands of visitors. But it's been scorned by some curators.
The Titanic exhibit at Chicago's Museum of Science and Industry is a slickly produced joint venture. It displays real artifacts from the famous ship in rooms dramatically designed by an entertainment production company.
The exhibit opens with the original lookout bell hanging in a dark room. Other rooms are designed to help the visitor imagine what it was like aboard the Titanic, including a re-created first-class suite and the famous grand staircase.
The 200 artifacts featured in the exhibit were recovered by a commercial salvage crew, an endeavor frowned up by the Smithsonian Institution and the International Council for Maritime Museums.
