Roberts executed for killing 80-year-old woman

(Oklahoma City-AP) -- A man convicted of murdering an 80-year-old Oklahoma City woman more than a decade ago was executed early this morning at the State Penitentiary in McAlester. In his last statement, Michael Donald Roberts said in reference to his executioners - quote - you've just got to ask the Lord to forgive them.

Roberts was pronounced dead at 12:21 am. -- four minutes after being administered a lethal dose of drugs. Roberts was convicted of murdering Lula Mae Brooks during a burglary of her home. She drowned in her own blood after being stabbed in the neck and head and having her throat slit. Roberts lived three houses away from Brooks and confessed to the killing in a statement to Oklahoma City police. Six witnesses were present for Roberts as he told his attorney and family members that he loved them.
