WARNER, Okla. (AP) -- Connors State College officials are preparing to search for a new president after Ron Garner announced he would retired effective July 31. Garner has been president since 1994. Prior to that, he wasdirector of Connors' Muskogee campus. He announced his plans Tuesday.

The search for a successor will begin when Garner gives his notice at a March meeting of the college's governing board. Garner plans to return to a ranch in Latimer County and work there. "I'm looking forward to an opportunity to do something different," he said. He said he would maintain his ties with the college. Garner said he chose to leave now because the college is doing well. Garner tried to retire last spring, but the board asked him to stay on.
