Lahoma police stop 18 illegal aliens in van

(Lahoma-AP) -- Eighteen illegal aliens were taken into custody after Lahoma police Captain Henry Grant and officer Todd Mitten stopped to help a broken down van on U-S 412. The illegal immigrants were discovered late Saturday night in a van with Florida plates.

It was the latest of several incidents of illegal immigrants being stopped in Garfield County in a little more than two years. And it was the second time in that period that a Lahoma police officer stopped illegal immigrants in Garfield County. In February 1998, a Lahoma officer stopped a speeding mini-van containing twelve Mexicans who were in the country illegally. An Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper stopped a van transporting 16Mexican illegal aliens in January 1998.
