Former veterinarian sentenced in drug case

TULSA, Okla. (AP) -- A former Broken Arrow veterinarian has been sentenced to two years in prison for failing to keep proper records on drugs kept in his office and obtaining a controlled drug by fraud.

TULSA, Okla. (AP) -- A former Broken Arrow veterinarian has been sentenced to two years in prison for failing to keep proper records on drugs kept in his office and obtaining a controlled drug by fraud. Ralph Edward Jewell, 53, of Cushing was sentenced Thursday afte rpleading guilty to two felonies filed in 1998. He also pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor count of abandoning an injured dog left in his care.

Tulsa County Associate District Judge Bill Beasley imposed the two-year sentence and gave him credit for 313 days he served in jail in 1998 and 1999. The earlier jail time satisfied a one-year sentence imposed by Special Judge Todd Singer in 1998 when he revoked Jewell's probation for domestic assault and battery.

Two other criminal cases against Jewell were dismissed Thursday as part of a plea agreement. Jewell's veterinary license was revoked in 1998 after testimony from pet owners about
