(Tulsa-AP) -- Inmates at the Tulsa Jail aren't doing a very good job of returning books from the jail's library. Officials say more than 650 books have been missing for a least six weeks. The Tulsa County Criminal Justice Authority bought $53,000 worth of new books before opening the jail and turning over operation of the lockup to Corrections Corporation of America.
Inmates are allowed to leave their pods to check out books from the library. They originally just signed books out. But now a bar-coding scanning system is in place to keep track of the books. C-C-A officials say they're looking into the matter of the missing books. But a jail authority officials says guards will soon start doing a sweep through cells to look for the missing volumes.
