(Morrisville, North Carolina-AP) -- The first blizzard of 2000 has set a record for snowfall in North Carolina.
Twenty-point-three inches piled up Tuesday at Raleigh-Durham International Airport -- a record for any single snowstorm.
The previous greatest snowfall from a single storm recorded in the Raleigh-Durham area was 17-point-nine inches measured in February of 1902. Another storm dumped 17-point-eight inches in March of 1927.
The storm of 2000 has already outstripped the record snowfall for a month in the Raleigh-Durham area -- 20 inches set in January 1893.
