Brother of man arrested on child porn charges jailed on child porn charge

TULSA, Okla. (AP) -- The brother of a man who has pleaded guilty to his involvement in a multi county child pornography ring has been arrested on a similar, but unrelated complaint, authorities said.

TULSA, Okla. (AP) -- The brother of a man who has pleaded guilty to his involvement in a multi county child pornography ring has been arrested on a similar, but unrelated complaint, authorities said. John Rogers Wolery was taken into custody about 11:30 p.m. Friday at his apartment, Detective Liz Eagan said.

John Wolery is the brother of Truman Wolery, who pleaded guilty in federal court last week to a conspiracy charge and two counts of participating in the production of illegal videotapes. He is scheduled to be formally sentenced April 26. Truman Wolery still faces state charges in Tulsa and Ottawa counties in connection with the pornography ring.

Truman Wolery was arrested Sept. 21 at his residence, where police found pornographic pictures of a young girl in a room where his brother, John, frequently stayed, Ms. Eagan said Monday. "When we ran the initial search warrant at Truman Wolery's residence, we found some Polaroid pictures in another bedroom that we found out is John's bedroom. He stays there on occasion and stores stuff there," Ms. Eagan said. "We found the pictures in a metal box under the bed. There were about 11 pictures of a 5- or 6-year-old girl that were sexually explicit."

Ms. Eagan said Truman Wolery initially said he did not know who the girl in the pictures was. She said the victim, now an adult, told police the pictures were taken more than 20 years ago and alleged that John Wolery used to sexually assault her. Police said the victim in the pictures had been related to the Wolerys by marriage but no longer is. The statute requires rape charges to be filed within seven years of discovery of the crime, assistant District Attorney Matt Cyran said.

Investigators had determined that the victim had told others about the crime when she was a child. John Wolery was charged Jan. 18 with unlawful possession of child pornography. There is no indication that he was involved in the pornography ring with his brother. Truman Wolery was indicted last fall along with Jarrod Sean Thomas Julian, Rick Thurston Welch and Wayne Karl Siegel on charges related to the videotaping of sex acts involving Julian's former stepdaughter.
