An e-mail is causing problems for seven historically black Texas colleges and universities. The e-mail began circulation in August. It says 14 black schools-- including seven in Texas -- will close due to "lack of funds."

Jack Evans, president of Southwestern Christian College in Terrell, says it's a lot of foolishness. He says there is no truth in it whatsoever.

The Texas institutions listed in the note are Huston-Tillotson College, Jarvis Christian College, Paul Quinn College, Southwestern Christian College, Texas College, Texas Southern University and Wiley College.

The schools have been swamped with phone calls from worried parents, prospective students and alumni who heard about the e-mail. And school officials say the message has been passed along so many times that it can't be traced back to its source.
