(Enid-AP) -- Agriculture experts say the outlook for the 2000 wheat harvest doesn't look too promising. The experts cited farmers' need for rain and a grim price outlook at a meeting on the Garfield County Fairgrounds.
The most recent winter wheat seedlings report from the Oklahoma Agricultural Statistics Service indicates acres planted are down five percent from last year. Kim Anderson is a professor of agricultural economics at Oklahoma State and a O-S-U Cooperative Extension grain marketing specialist. Anderson says some things could help with the problem of having more than 900 billion bushels in storage. He says there is a possibility that the U-S-D-A has overestimated the amount of wheat left. And there could be exports that weren't figured into the formula.
