An elementary school teacher died while officiating a junior high school basketball game here. Everett Dean Emberson, 46, collapsed during the first half of a junior-high girls game between Mason and New Lima Thursday.

About150 people were at the game and nurses came out of the stands and tried unsuccessfully to revive him. Paramedics from Okemah arrived about 15 minutes after Emberson collapsed, said Mason Superintendent Dale Smart.

The junior high games scheduled for Thursday were postponed. So was Mason's high school game Friday at New Lima.

Smart said the Okfuskee County school district brought in a crisis management team to help children deal with the situation. Emberson had double-bypass heart surgery in March 1995.
