An Oklahoma lawmaker wants to give you a free ride on the turnpike.
State Representative John Wright is introducing House Bill 1971. The law would give drivers a free ride one day a week. And the free ride would only apply to turnpikes that are at least 35 years old. That includes the Will Rogers, Turner, and H.E. Bailey Turnpikes.
Wright says "I think this would offer a glimmer of hope that perhaps in your lifetime or mine that we'd have an opportunity to see the full fulfillment of that promise of the turnpikes being given back to the citizens of the state." But there's a possible roadblock. It's unclear if the legislature has the power to impose the plan on the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority.
