Six firefighters were remembered Sunday morning in churches throughout Worcester, Massachusetts. They were lost in a warehouse fire Friday night.
The body of one has been retrieved -- the five others are presumed dead.
Father Charles Dumphy of Blessed Sacrament Church – where firefighter James Lyons was a member -- described their efforts as an act of martyrdom. Two of the firemen went into the building to search for homeless people reportedly trapped there. The four others went in to try to rescue their colleagues.
Another minister says firefighters and police officers prove their heroism every day and that the tragedy is bringing the community together.
