The Secret Service, responding to a threat, asked people traveling with President Clinton on Air Force One today to inspect their belongings for "anything suspicious."
Apparently nothing untoward was found aboard the flight from Athens, Greece, to Pisa, Italy. Clinton took a helicopter from there to Florence.
White House press secretary Joe Lockhart said "there was a threat," but he would not elaborate about the threat or security measures taken in response.
During the flight, the head of the president's Secret Service detail, Larry Cockell, took the highly unusual step of asking all aboard to check their carryon bags for "anything suspicious."
