OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- A man who kidnapped an elderly Bethany
woman has been sentenced to serve life in prison plus an additional
45 years.

Juan Angel Ruiz, 20, was sentenced by Oklahoma County District
Judge Tammy Bass-Jones on Thursday. He had pleaded guilty to 16
felonies, including kidnapping, attempted murder, armed robbery,
burglary and larceny.

Many of the charges stemmed from the August 1997 abduction of
Grace Looker, 84, from her home. Ruiz broke into her home, beat
her, threatened to kill her and demanded money.

The attacker then forced Ms. Looker into her car and made her
drive to the bank, but it was closed. She convinced him to go to a
restaurant where her husband was eating breakfast, promising the
man her husband's Cadillac, but when they arrived began honking the
horn.

A Bethany police officer who was around the corner arrived
within a minute and arrested Ruiz.
