(Seminole-AP) -- A Wewoka physician was killed when his
single-engine aircraft crashed into a field four miles north of
Seminole.

Doctor Michael Houghton died when his Beechcraft Bonanza
reportedly incurred mechanical problems approximately one mile from
the Seminole airport.

Seminole County Sheriff Charles Sisco says witnesses heard the
plane sputtering just before it crashed.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says the airplane crashed four miles
north of Seminole between 7 and 8 p-m last night. The wreckage came
to rest just east of Oklahoma 99.

There were no passengers.

The pilot is believed to have flown to Tulsa airport and was
returning to Seminole on business for the Corrections Corporation
of America.

Sisco says federal investigators have arrived at the scene.
