TULSA, Okla. (AP) -- Michigan State assistant coach Doug Wojcik is the new head basketball coach at Tulsa.

This is Wojcik's first head coaching job. In addition to Michigan State he was as an assistant at the Naval Academy, North Carolina and Notre Dame. He's a graduate of the Naval Academy and was a three-year starter for the Midshipmen.

The 40-year-old Wojcik succeeds John Phillips, who resigned on Christmas Day.

TU has been without a coach since the resignation of John Phillips on Christmas Day. Assistant coach Pooh Williamson finished the year as interim head coach.

Tulsa is coming off back-to-back 9-and-20 seasons after going to the NCAA Tournament in eight of the previous ten seasons.
