EDMOND, Okla. (AP) -- A 24-year-old McAlester man was killed early Thursday when his car was struck by a train in Edmond.

Wilson Eric Allford was eastbound on Fifth Street in his 1995 Nissan at about 3:40 a.m. when the car was struck by a southbound Burlington Northern train, Edmond Police spokeswoman Glynda Chu said. The car was dragged about four blocks before the train came to a stop, Chu said.

The train conductor told police he saw Allford's car stop at the railroad crossing before driving into the path of the oncoming train.

The crossing bars and lights were functioning properly at the time of the collision, Chu said.
