WASHINGTON (AP) -- The US Supreme Court is to hear arguments in two cases involving the posting of the Ten Commandments that could have an affect in Oklahoma.

One case is from Texas in which an appeals court says the state has the right to display a monument of the Ten Commandments at the state Capitol. The other case is from Kentucky where another appeals court says two counties violated the Constitutionally displaying the commandments at their courthouses.

The cases will likely determine whether a monument at the Haskell County courthouse is constitutional. The 8-foot-tall granite monument has the Ten Commandments on one side and the Mayflower Compact on the other.

Supporters of placing the monuments on government property say it's part of a display of other historical symbols.

Opponents say displaying the Ten Commandments is an unconstitutional endorsement of religion by the government.
