It was closing day Monday for a 90-year old downtown Tulsa mainstay.
The Children's Day Nursery has been around since 1915 and cared for almost 100 kids. Now the nursery stands in the path of progress and is closing to make way for the new downtown arena.
News on 6 anchor Scott Thompson says on Monday, moving crews packed up what's left of the Children's Day Nursery. The last day for students was Friday.
The closing means children like 3-year-old August Nielsen have been forced to find a new day care. Her parents have had August on a waiting list for another day care since before she was born. And at just the right time, a spot opened up. August will go to a new downtown day care, but without her teachers and friends she's made over the past three years.
August's dad, Kurt Nielsen says the Day Nursery's been a big part of his daughter's life so far and it'll be hard for her entire family to let go. "She'll remember it. She's got a good memory. Like I said, she's adaptable. Probably more than some of us that are. I'm probably pretty much resigned to it a little bit. My wife's pretty sad about it."
As Kurt said, the process has been especially hard on his wife Beth.
