OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ A former death row inmate is among about 170 state prison inmates being recommended for parole.
The state Pardon and Parole Board is recommending Don Roberts be set free. Roberts was convicted and sentenced to death for the 1974 shooting death of Edmond liquor store clerk Carolyn Sue Rogers.
His sentence was commuted to life after the US Supreme Court ruled in 1976 that the death penalty was unconstitutional.
The parole board is also recommending the release of Vernon Cannon, who was convicted of first-degree manslaughter for shooting his wife in the back of the head in 1988.
