OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ A new study finds only 37% of Oklahoma's high school graduates are prepared for a four-year college.

The study by the Manhattan Institute of New York looked at students who graduated in 2002, the most recent year that information is available for a national comparison.

The percentage of Oklahoma high school graduates who were ready for college is slightly higher than the national average of 34%.

The study also found that 79% of the students in Oklahoma's class of 2002 graduated from high school, the ninth best graduation rate in the nation. The report says 81 percent of white students graduated, 70% of blacks and 59% of Hispanics.

The state tied with Rhode island for having the highest percentage of black students graduating high school.
