It wasn't the wake up call they planned for. A south Tulsa family is cleaning up after a Tulsa Union School bus crashed into their home Monday morning.

Luckily, no children were on the bus and no one was hurt, but residents say this isn't the first accident here and they want the city to do something about it.

News on 6 reporter Omar Villafranca explains.

Owner of the home Brian Clayton: "It sounded like a train smashing through the house, that’s basically what it sounded like." Tulsa Police say the driver of a Union School bus accidentally hit the accelerator instead of the brake. That sent the bus smashing through the brick mailbox and over a basketball hoop where kids play. The bus sideswiped two parked pickup trucks, before plowing into the house and into a car parked in the garage. Residents know the dangers of this road all too well.

Brian Clayton: “This is the second time, the first time was 2 months ago and somebody took out a mail box there are always people coming here too fast."

Tulsa Police officer Dale White: "We are aware that they've had some other problems with speeding in this neighborhood. It's got old skid marks into the curb in the exact same place."

The neighborhood is crawling with kids and that has residents here concerned. They've asked the city for help, but nothings been done. Neighbor Jaycee Kerns: "It would be very simple to put a stop sign right in the middle and this would not happened because people would not be able to get going this fast. This neighborhood has tons of kids. I have 4, all playing here and this is a disaster waiting to happen."

Brian Clayton suggests speed bumps or even lowering the speed limit. He just wants something done, before it's too late.

Tulsa Police estimate the wreck caused about $50,000 in damage to the homeowner’s property. The school bus has about $8,000 in damages.

In an unrelated incident, Tulsa Police are trying to figure out why another Tulsa Union School bus, loaded with kids, crashed into several mailboxes Monday afternoon.

It happened near 81st and Mingo. There were several 8th graders on the bus at the time, but they weren't injured. Police say the 78 year old driver told them he had a mechanical problem with the bus. He did undergo a sobriety test, which he passed.

The school and police will continue to investigate.
