Law enforcement officers from all over Oklahoma received some special awards Thursday.
The Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Oklahoma Highway Office presented the Buckledown Awards for 2004. The awards recognized the officers' for their work in traffic safety, education and prevention efforts to reduce traffic accidents.
Tammy Ryden won the Seat Belt Advocate Award. "We can't let up until we get to 100%. The seat belt use rate nationwide is just now under 80%, I think about 79%, and we just have to keep plugging away. When I speak to officers, I know they have an incredibly tough job out there, but I ask them to right down every single violation they see."
By the way, next Thursday, the Tulsa Safe Kids Coalition will host a free car seat inspection at Riverside Chevrolet.
