OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ A plan to help Oklahoma National Guard families who need financial help was approved by a legislative committee Wednesday.

The Oklahoma National Guard Relief Program would pay for approved expenses of qualified members of the Army and Air National Guards. It would be funded by taxpayers who checkoff a box on their state income tax form to donate a portion of their tax refund.

The measure is part of Governor Henry's Operation Homefront plan to help Guard members. Representative Wade Rousselot of Wagoner says Guard members frequently experience financial problems when they're called to active duty.

The bill was approved by the House Revenue and Taxation Committee and now goes to the full House for consideration.
