OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ A state department and a construction industry trade group are joining forces to help provide more construction workers in the state.

A booming construction industry has left construction companies struggling to find skilled workers. And those in the industry say young people stopped going into construction in the late 80s and early 90s when computer and high-tech jobs began growing.

Now the state Department of Career and Technology Education and Associated General Contractors are creating a construction education program to train future construction workers. Dick Anderson with Associated General Contractors says the program will cover all aspects of construction, from carpentry to architecture and engineering.

The program will include academies in Oklahoma City and Tulsa for students to learn the trade.
