Suspect sought in an abduction and sexual assault in Sand Springs

Authorities need your help in solving a recent abduction and sexual assault involving a 5-year-old girl.

It happened Monday night at an apartment complex near 81st and Parkway in Sand Springs. Detectives say around eleven o'clock Monday night, a man entered the apartment through an open window. Police say he took the five-year old girl a short
distance away, then assaulted her.

Afterwards, he told the child to go home. She didn't tell her mother until the next day.

Sand Springs Police are looking for a white man, between 18 and 25-years-old, possibly with a goatee, wearing a black, hooded jacket.

Sand Springs assistant police Chief Mike Carter say you can avoid becoming a victim by taking some precautions. "Use your common sense. If you see someone strange in your neighborhood, call us. We won't be offended, that's why we're here. And, check your doors, there's more reason that just this, you just want to be safe."

Police say this case is similar to a string of recent sexual assaults in Tulsa. In those cases, the attacker went after young victims and entered through an unlocked window.
