OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Oklahoma National Guardsmen would get a life insurance policy and tax relief under a benefits package unveiled by Governor Brad Henry Monday.
The package -- called "Operation Homefront" -- includes a $250,000 life insurance policy for every member of the Army and Air National Guard. It also calls for a 50% tax exemption on veterans' military pensions.
Henry says a Military Family Relief Fund would allow Oklahomans to donate all or part of their state income tax refund to soldiers' families.
Henry unveiled the package at a news conference where he was flanked by more than a dozen Guardsmen.
Henry says the Guard is making an extraordinary commitment to the state. He says its only right to make an extraordinary commitment to the Guard.
