OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ An Oklahoma company is competing with the nation's biggest players in the pharmaceutical industry to find a cure for Alzheimer's disease.
Doctor Jordan Tang says creating a drug that will halt the progressive brain disease is a big prize of the medical research industry.
Tang works for Oklahoma City-based Zapaq, a company that was built around discoveries he made as a researcher at the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation. Tang identified a key enzyme that plays a role in the development of Alzheimer's in the human brain.
Founded in 2001, Zapaq has attracted six (M) million dollars in financing and employs a team of 15 people to identify a compound that will effectively halt the progression of Alzheimer's.
