Tulsa Public School Superintendent Doctor David Sawyer gave his annual "state of the schools" address Tuesday night.
He called 2004 a year of positive change. Sawyer says a recent reorganization brought the district closer together and real results like improved test scores. He says there's still a lot of work to be done.37 Tulsa Public Schools are listed as "needing improvement".
And the district is struggling to meet the new federal "No Child Left Behind" guidelines. Dr Sawyer says leadership teams have created a vision for the district's next five years.
The plan is complex, but the goal is simple. "All of these challenges, opportunities and accomplishments can be pushed down into one crucially important word, representing a concept that is driving our performance excellence journey and that word is alignment."
Dr Sawyer says much of the focus in 2005 will be on aligning the district's resources to better serve the community.
