BARTLESVILLE, Okla. (AP) -- A Bartlesville man will spend 18 months in the state prison for stomping a bird to death.
Clarence Eugene Billingsley was sentenced this week after pleading guilty last October to a charge of animal cruelty.
Bartlesville police say they were called to Billingsley's apartment last August to investigate a report of a man destroying his apartment. The officers say they saw a yellow cockatiel lying in the grass, unable to move and when they told Billingsley it needed attention he stomped it with his foot.
The officers say Billingsley then said he had bought the bird for his girlfriend and could do whatever he wanted with it.
