Cleaner air is making fans of the Chili Bowl Nationals happy at Tulsa’s Expo Square. This year, the breathing is easier.
Expo Square installed vents to pull in fresh air to exhaust some of the fumes from the midget cars. In past years, all those cars in such a small space made it hard to breathe for some fans.
Chili Bowl fan Rachel Herad: "Before it has been so bad, the ventilation that my eyes, contacts, they're red for days, and I can't breathe and I cough and everything."
Most fans say this year was better than last.
The Tulsa City-County Health Department checked air quality Wednesday night and determined it was safe for spectators, but still many people are choosing to wear masks.
