Work begins this week to verify signatures on an initiative petition that will help the state's bridges and roads.
Boxes of petitions containing nearly 300,000 signatures were delivered to the Secretary of State on December 20th. The petition calls for a vote of the people to amend the state Constitution and create a Highway Oversight Commission.
Voters would also decide whether to increase the gasoline tax by five cents a gallon and the diesel tax by eight cents a gallon.
