LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) _ Louisville football coach Bobby Petrino withdrew from consideration for the job at L-S-U today.
He met with L-S-U officials during the week about replacing Nick Saban, who is leaving the Tigers for the N-F-L's Miami Dolphins. Arkansas coach Houston Nutt pulled out of contention for the L-S-U job Thursday.
Oklahoma State coach Les Miles also was contacted by L-S-U officials about the position.
In a statement, Petrino said he thinks L-S-U has a great program, but believes Louisville is on the brink of competing for a national championship.
Petrino coached Number Seven Louisville to a 44-to-40 victory over Number Ten Boise State in the Liberty Bowl yesterday. Louisville recently gave Petrino a raise from 550-thousand dollars to one (m) million dollars a season, plus incentive clauses.
