NOWATA, Okla. (AP) -- James L. Sontag, a former district court judge whose legal career also included stints as a county attorney and an assistant district attorney, has died.

Sontag, who was 73, died Sunday.

He practiced law in Nowata for 27 years and served as the county attorney of Nowata County and Assistant District Attorney for Nowata and Washington Counties.

He was judge of the District Court of Nowata and Washington counties from 1987 until his retirement in 2001.
