WASHINGTON (AP) _ Alternative Health & Herbs Remedies issued a nationwide recall Thursday on four eye rinse products that pose an unacceptable risk of causing eye infections.

The recall followed a Food and Drug Administration inspection that found the Albany, Ore.-based company's manufacturing conditions and controls were insufficient to guarantee a sterile product.

Non-sterile eye drops can cause eye infections that, in rare cases, could lead to blindness. No eye injuries have been reported in association with the recalled Alternative Health & Herbs Remedies eye care products.

Subject to recall are all lots of American Health & Herbs Ministry's Eye Rinse Concentrate formula 1036 live concentrated herbal tincture, White Willow Bark 3193 live concentrated herbal tincture, Fennel Seed 3126 live concentrated herbal tincture and Elderberry Flower 3247 live concentrated herbal tincture.

The recalled products are packaged in 2-ounce and 8-ounce brown glass bottles. Since Nov. 1, 2002, the company has distributed about 300 bottles of the four products.

Consumers are advised not to use those eye drops and eye washes. People can either discard them or return them to the company _ Alternative Health & Herbs Remedies, P.O. Box 217, Albany, OR 97321 _ with a receipt for a full refund.
