With layoffs looming, American Airlines says it will offer incentives to some employees if they -leave- the company.

Many employees with at least five years seniority will be able to leave in exchange for longer travel benefits or higher severance pay. Workers could choose one or the other or smaller amounts of both.

The company did not disclose how many employees would be offered the incentives to quit.
