Fire officials are still investigating a fire that killed four people in Cherokee County. The state fire marshal’s office says the fire appears to be accidental and most likely not caused by a meth lab, as first reports indicated.
They also say two children and two adult men inside the mobile home in Briggs apparently died from smoke inhalation, but the medical examiner is working to confirm that. Firefighters recovered the bodies of 2-year-old Randi and 5-year-old Patricia McClendon in the rubble of the home Thursday, along with the remains of George Leach and George Shell.
The state fire marshal says there was drug paraphernalia found outside the home, but it was not related to the fire.
The children's parents say they were at a casino when the fire broke out early Thursday morning.
