A toddler is recovering from burns and smoke inhalation after he was trapped in an early Wednesday morning house fire in Chelsea in Rogers County.
News on 6 reporter Omar Villafranca says fire crews were putting out hotspots almost five hours after the blaze broke out.
All six members of the Lagates Family were asleep when the fire started and five of them managed to get out. The only one who didn't escape immediately was 3-year-old Chance Lagates.
Luckily, some nearby neighbors saw the flames and came to the rescue. Chelsea Police Chief Larry Parker: "We had a couple of guys on their way to work this morning, they drove up on it and jumped out. There were 6-8 or 10 people that got together and worked in shifts to locate the little boy and get him out of the house."
The boy was taken to a Tulsa hospital and his father says he's doing fine. The Legates family says they lost everything in the blaze, but the Red Cross did show up to help out.
Investigators are still searching for the cause of the fire, but family members are just grateful that little Chance will be fine.
