OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ A proposed museum in Weatherford will get $149,115 in construction funding, thanks to federal legislation.
Rep. Frank Lucas, R-Okla., said Friday that the money is being administered through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development grant program, and will be used for facilities construction at the Heartland of America Museum.
The museum will provide exhibits of artifacts, information and educational activities relating to the tradition and history of western Oklahoma. Local support and investments in land, artifacts and the building fund have exceeded $380,000.
``Not only does the museum serve as a boost to the local economy through increased tourism dollars, it also will serve as a reminder of the pioneer spirit of our predecessors,'' Lucas said.
The money was included House Resolution 2861, the HUD spending bill.
