DETROIT (AP) _ A factory worker pleaded not guilty Friday to charges he killed a co-worker with a sword that he fashioned at the metals plant where both men worked.

James Flemons, 30, faces a mandatory sentence of life in prison if convicted of murdering Anthony Williams, 40. Williams was killed late Wednesday at Peerless Steel Corp.

Authorities said Williams was nearly decapitated.

After the arraignment, Flemons remained jailed without bond pending a Nov. 10 preliminary hearing.

Witnesses told police that Flemons had complained he was being bullied by Williams. The factory makes metal powders used in brakes.
