SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) _ The St. Louis Cardinals say their new AA franchise in Springfield, Missouri, has received approval to join the Texas League of Professional Baseball Clubs.

The Springfield Cardinals will play in a new $32-million ballpark, built by business man John Q. Hammons.

The Cardinals purchased the El Paso Diablos franchise in the Texas League. It's relocating players in Kodak, Tennessee to Springfield.

The Springfield Cardinals will play 140 games, between April and September. The first game at Hammons Field will be April 12th against the Tulsa Drillers.

The Cardinals say they have already received over 3,500 inquiries for season tickets.
