OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ Former President George -HW- Bush visited Oklahoma City Tuesday on behalf of Republican US Senate candidate Tom Coburn.
Bush says Coburn's election on November 2nd could determine whether Republicans or Democrats control the US Senate. He says Coburn's election means a great deal to Oklahomans as well as the rest of the nation.
Bush says Coburn will be an independent voice for Oklahomans in Washington and will not be in lockstep with the leadership.
Bush spoke at a fund-raiser for Coburn at the Oklahoma City Civic Center, where organizers expected to raise up to $200,000.
Coburn also addressed the crowd, saying that he understands the issues the country is facing.
Coburn compared the campaign to a battle for the future of children, families and freedom.
Coburn is locked in a tight race with Democrat Brad Carson for the US Senate seat being vacated by Senator Don Nickles after 24 years.
