OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Starting next month, couples getting married in Oklahoma will no longer have to get a blood test for syphilis.

The requirement ends next month under a law passed by the state Legislature.

Health officials say the test outlived its usefulness.

Couple planning to get married are far less likely to test positive for the disease than they were years ago and doctors are better able to treat the disease.
