OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Healthy Oklahomans should forgo influenza flu shots this year to ensure that high risk populations have access to the vaccination.
This comes after Oklahoma officials learned Tuesday that it would not be receiving 292,500 doses of the flu vaccine after British regulators suspended the license of vaccine supplier Chiron Corporation.
State health officials say the remaining 32,500 vaccinations should be saved for high risk groups like children under two years old, pregnant women and people with chronic health problems.
The shortage in flu vaccines means the state will have fewer flu shots to give out for free at county health departments.
Officials say private physicians should still have access to the vaccination.
