EDMOND, Okla. (AP) -- All Leroy Dawson wants is a chance, and the New Orleans Hornets gave one to the former small-college guard on Wednesday.
Dawson, who played for Southern Nazarene of the NAIA last season, joined forwards Reyshawn Terry of North Carolina, Stephane Lasme of Massachusetts and Rashad Jones-Jennings of Arkansas-Little Rock as the Hornets conducted their third workout session in preparation for the NBA's June 28th draft.
Hornets coach Byron Scott says Dawson's attempt to leap from the NAIA into the NBA is daunting, but says he thinks Dawson has a chance to make an NBA roster.
The Hornets became aware of Dawson in part because they have used SNU's Sawyer Center as their practice facility during their two-year stay in Oklahoma City.
As a result, Dawson and Hornets guard Bobby Jackson developed a relationship, as did coaches and officials from S-N-U and the Hornets. Scott says his son also played AAU basketball with Dawson in Los Angeles.
