Some Oklahomans are already helping our neighbors to the south. Two volunteers from the Tulsa chapter of the American Red Cross drove to Texas early Tuesday morning. They are driving a Red Cross Emergency Response vehicle to Denton, Texas, that is about 30 miles south of the most heavily flooded areas.
The volunteers plan to take food, clean up kits and bug spray to the neighborhoods affected by the high waters. Phyllis Brown has been on three relief efforts in her year with the Red Cross. She says she is ready for this assignment. "I don't want to come back until everybody down there has been taken care of, until I feel like I've done my job and they don't need me anymore then that's when I'll come back."
The Red Cross office in Tulsa is recruiting more of their current volunteers to join the others. Each volunteer will stay for up to two weeks.
