Coburn Among Six Senators Not Signing Up For Earmarks

WASHINGTON (AP) _ Just six of the 100 members of the U.S. Senate did not ask for the often-criticized ``earmarks'' that would provide money for items such as road or libraries in their home states.

WASHINGTON (AP) _ Just six of the 100 members of the U.S. Senate did not ask for the often-criticized ``earmarks'' that would provide money for items such as road or libraries in their home states.

Senator Tom Coburn of Oklahoma is one of the six.

Coburn has often been a vocal critic of earmarks.

The Senate Appropriations Committee's Web site says 94 Senators turned in requests this spring for earmarks in spending bills for the fiscal year that begins October 1st.

The specifics won't be known until the bills are made public.

Others who didn't sign up are Republicans John McCain and Jim DeMint and Democrats Jay Rockefeller, Clair McCaskill and Russ Feingold.
