HOBART, Okla. (AP) _ Heavy rains in southwestern Oklahoma led to flooding and evacuations and rescues Wednesday night as six to eight inches of rain fell around Hobart.
About 30 people were forced to leave their homes in eastern Hobart when Frisco Creek flooded and another dozen were rescued from their stranded cars.
U.S. Highway 183 and State Highway 9 were closed for a time and a portion of 183 is washed away.
Hobart Fire Chief Jerry Lankford says the rains also washed straw into the town and clogged sewer drains.
The Red Cross has set up an emergency shelter at First Presbyterian Church for those displaced by the storm.
