DETROIT (AP) _ Who knew that seagulls were such big baseball fans?

Several of the birds invaded Jacobs Field in Cleveland last night. They spent most of the game milling around in the outfield grass while the Indians were edged out by Seattle 8-to-7.

Meanwhile, about 50 seagulls gave Detroit's Comerica Park the look of a landfill site on Sunday. They were on the field as the Tigers began playing the New York Mets, and about half of them stuck around in the outfield for the whole game. Experts tell The Detroit News the seagulls were there to eat the moths in the air and on the ground.

The Tigers' head groundskeeper says the team is buying plastic owls to put on the field in hopes of scaring the gulls away.
